About
Welcome to Friends of Chamber Music at Plymouth Church!
Located at the edge of the White Mountain National Forest in central New Hampshire, Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ has had a presence in Plymouth since 1764. A vibrant and active community throughout its history, in more recent times, it has focused support for Habitat for Humanity, social justice and racial equality. In 1992, it was the first church in New Hampshire to declare itself Open and Affirming to the LGBT community.
While taking such bold stands, this church has also been a strong and passionate advocate for the arts. After the church burned in 1983, the congregation insisted on a new pipe organ and so a magnificent 23-rank Austin organ was installed. In 2022, a new, four manual Viscount organ console was installed and is connected to all pipes and has additional digital voices carefully selected to allow any organist the ability to program repertoire from any era. The Viscount-Austin hybrid now has 90 ranks of digital and pipe stops and it is now one of the largest in New Hampshire! It is glorious!
With its close proximity to Plymouth State University, numerous collaborative music performances have taken place.
Most recently, a performance of Vivaldi's Gloria with orchestra and a choir of 65. The 70-year-old New Hampshire Music Festival Chamber Series is now based at the church each summer.
In recent years, groups like Chanticleer, Inscape Chamber Orchestra, NH Master Chorale, UNH Chamber Singers and the Yale Whiffenpoofs have performed, as well as numerous pianists, organists, vocal soloists and other instrumentalists from around New England and the USA.
This season, we are very excited to present a growing roster of fantastic musicians. We hope you will come and attend in person. If that is not possible, you can find the concerts streaming on the church website www.uccplymouth.org or on the Facebook page. We look forward to welcoming you to our amazing sanctuary, either in-person or online.
All best wishes,
David A Williams
